INGREDIENTS
2 tbsp mixed spice
700g green tomatoes, chopped
1 onion, chopped
1 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and chopped
200g raisins
1 cup cider vinegar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tsp salt
METHOD
Combine all the ingredients in a large pan and simmer, uncovered, for approx 1 hour, stirring from time to time until the chutney is thickened and only a small amount of liquid is left.
At this point the chutney should have darkened and is now ready to spoon into sterilised jars. Makes approx 3 x 300ml jars.
While hot place the jars into a large pan of boiling water with the lids on for 10 mins.
Remove carefully from the boiling water and seal. Keeps for 3 to 4 months unopened.
